Kragujevac as a Hub for National Dialogue on Mobility

Dialogue for a More Sustainable Serbia

In the authentic setting of the „Arsenal Hub“ in Kragujevac, a major national workshop dedicated to the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) was held on February 24, 2026. The event brought together an impressive group of approximately 80 participants, including leading professors, researchers, ministry representatives, and experts in the fields of transport and urban planning.

Synergy of Theory and Practice

The primary goal of the workshop was the professional validation of Kragujevac’s development objectives. Ivan Radulović, the Chief City Planner, emphasized that the involvement of the academic community and national experts is crucial for creating solutions that are both scientifically grounded and applicable in a real-world environment.

Key Pillars of Discussion

During the sessions, experts analyzed several vital areas:

  • Regulatory Compliance: Methods for implementing the plan in accordance with the latest legal frameworks in Serbia were discussed.
  • Technical Innovations: Special focus was placed on digital traffic management systems and the „Mobility as a Service“ (MaaS) concept.
  • Financing: Potential access funds and models for implementing complex infrastructure projects were explored.

An Inclusive and Human-Centric City

Participants confirmed that the priority must remain the transformation of the city core into a space tailored to human needs. This involves the scientifically planned expansion of pedestrian zones and the formation of an integrated cycling network, directly contributing to the reduction of noise and harmful emissions.

Significance for Higher Education

This event provided valuable insight into how strategic documents are developed through a dialogue between the profession and the state. For Kragujevac, as a university center, the successful implementation of the SUMP means creating a modern, safe, and innovative environment for the work and studies of future generations.
